Camden; "Journal of Henrietta Fitzhugh Barr, 1862-1863," a narrative with a Confederate viewpoint relating civilian affairs at Ravenswood and military events in western Virginia, "Diary Extracts, Capt. James S. Cassady, 1866," a sketch of the Kanawha Riflemen, C.S.A.; letters written by W. Cabell Tavenner in New Orleans, Louisiana, 1860-1861, to his family in Weston, showing the development of his sympathy for the Confederacy; a letter of Lieutenant W.M. McKinney, Company I, Fifteenth Regiment Indiana Volunteers, 25 July 1861, describing the battle of Rich Mountain and his travels in western Virginia; and material on Jacob W. Marshall's Guerrilla Band of the Nineteenth Virginia Cavalry. Copyright records for western Virginia, 1822-1845, a Cook family genealogy, and notes on sources used by A.S. Abstract: Papers of a Grafton attorney who was a lawyer for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad and prosecuting attorney of Taylor County, West Virginia, assistant to Governor J.B. Jackson, collector of internal revenue for West Virginia, and a member of the Democratic National Committee. There are case papers and letters pertaining to McGraw's law practice; records relating to the purchase, sale, and development of timber, coal, and oil lands; and records of his directorships in the Grafton and Greenbrier Railroad, and the Iron Valley and Morgantown Railroad companies. The papers reflect many aspects of activities of the Democratic Party in West Virginia, ca.1880-1899. There is a scrapbook of Rose McGraw relating largely to Mount de Chantal Academy at Wheeling. Abstract: Journal compiled primarily from letters written by an officer in the Fifty-fourth Massachusetts Volunteers to his wife; a scrapbook containing official papers relating to Appleton's service in the Civil War and his postwar membership in the West Virginia Volunteers and National Guard; family papers and newspaper clippings. There are original letters and newspaper accounts of the regiment which was among the first to enlist black soldiers. Subjects include the attack on Fort Wagner, Charleston Harbor; the occupation of Jacksonville, Florida; and the regiment's return to Fort Warren of Boston, Massachusetts.

Their commander was Capt. John Launce who had orders from the President of the United States for active service. This volume was presented to the University by Siegel O. Gardner, Morgantown public schools, Morgantown W. Va., in the summer of 1945. George Sils, last survivor of Gen. Lee's army in Monongalia County, died in summer of 1943. Two large photographs. Tyrone Forge 1807-1814. Record book containing a list of employees, wages paid etc., of the Forge at Tyrone, Monongalia County.

Abstract: Personal and business papers of a lawyer, U.S. senator, circuit court judge, and the first governor of West Virginia. The bulk of the collection consists of papers relating to his judgeship and to the firm of Boreman and Bullock, Parkersburg. Letters to Boreman, 1866-1867, from Francis H. Pierpont, concern politics in West Virginia, the admission of Berkeley and Jefferson counties into the state, the Virginia debt, and Reconstruction in Virginia. There is little other material relating to the governorship or political activities. There are manuscripts of speeches, household accounts, Civil and court case papers concerning oil well drilling and sales; railroad property inventories and operation; coal prices, shipping data, and strikes; liquid fuel transportation; steam and tow boat cargoes, navigation data, and names of boats in service on the Ohio River. There is genealogical information on P.G. Van Winkle and Ebenezer Zane, and a letter and deposition by J.H Diss Debar. Correspondents include J.W. Davis, D.D.T. Farnsworth, Francis H. Pierpont, D.H. Strother, J.G. Jackson, Charles J. Faulkner, and E.W. Wilson.

Abstract: Annual reports issued to stockholders summarizing the economic status of the Wheeling Steel Corporation. Official news bulletins for management personnel entitled "Its Wheeling Steel." It is and intra-company newsletter containing reports, policy statements, recommendations, and announcements. Also a volume of the term loan and revolving credit agreement with the supplemental indenture (fifth) to the first mortgage and deed of trust. This 1967 compilation by Hale D. Fox records the credit agreements to resolve indebtedness arranged with major financial institutions such as Chase Manhattan Bank.
